TKO Gateway shopping mall in Hong Kong has set up a Scent and Taste Laboratory to entice visitors to dine at one of its restaurants.
The pop-up creates and exhibits 30 food scents across five different themes: Hong Kong Delicacies, International Cuisine, Fresh Fruits and Spices, Signature Beverages and Sweetie Desserts.
For example, the HK Foodie Zone presents signature local delicacies, including mini egg puffs, pineapple buns, and curry fish balls, using the innovative forms of scented candles and aroma-infused oils.
The Sweet Delight Zone whets dessert lovers’ appetites with its aromas of vanilla ice cream, apple pie, almond paste, chocolate cookies, and green bean soup presented in perfume bottles. The Fresh N Spices Zone, the Global Flavour Zone, and the Beverage Taster Zone provide further olfactory experiences in different areas of the mall.
By scanning QR codes next to each zone, customers can earn e-stamps in the mall’s Park & Dine mobile app. Upon collecting four e-stamps, they are able to redeem a HK$10 cash coupon for the mall’s Food Lane, which features more than 20 restaurants. In this way, the installation is viewed as a traffic driver to the mall’s eateries.
Customers spending more than $HK1,500 at the mall during a single week can also claim a Portable Aroma Diffuser during the duration of the Scent and Taste Laboratory campaign.
