This humanoid robot from 1X is designed to help around the house

1X, a robotics company with offices in both Norway and the US, has unveiled a teaser for its highly anticipated humanoid robot, Neo Beta.

Founded in 2014 and backed by OpenAI, the company has been steadily working behind the scenes to build robots that can help around the house. In August 2024, the company announced the upcoming launch of the Neo Beta – a robot designed specifically for home use which can assist with a variety of everyday tasks, offering particular support to individuals with limited mobility or special needs.

According to 1X, the Neo Beta isn’t just another service robot – it aims to be a helpful, intelligent companion capable of handling household chores, aiding in personal care and improving overall quality of life for those who require extra assistance. Whether it’s fetching items, assisting with simple cleaning tasks or providing companionship, the Neo Beta could represent a new era of robotics, where advanced AI and human-like dexterity come together to enhance home living and offer an extra pair of hands for those in need.

The company says it will soon roll out the Neo Beta robots for testing in real home environments. This pilot phase will allow 1X to gather valuable data on how the robots interact with users, refine its functionality and continue to asses what tasks the robots can usefully achieve in domestic settings. If successful, Neo Beta could become a game-changer in making smart homes truly intelligent, blending futuristic technology with practical, everyday use.
