The Sylvia Beach Hotel is a digital-free haven for book lovers

The Sylvia Beach Hotel is not a new opening, but this Nye Beach, Newport, stalwart has proved the longstanding appeal of its digital-free policy, designed to give visitors the headspace to read and write without any technological distractions.

Opened in its current form in 1987, the hotel features 21 rooms full of books and other details inspired by different authors. The literary theme runs deep in the hotel, which has no phones, televisions or Wi-Fi in any of its rooms. The idea is to enable a full digital detox – enabling visitors to unplug and immerse themselves in thinking, reading and writing, or simply relaxing.

Sylvia Beach Hotel offers the perfect space for aspiring authors and book lovers to unwind and escape from the hectic demands of modern life. As of June 2024, the hotel is under the management of Portland-based VIP Hospitality Group, who have announced they plan to keep running the hotel as is for the time being.
