Spotify has responded to the surge in at-home exercising during lockdown by offering personalised workout playlists that merge users’ musical and exercise preferences.
Using the Soundtrack Your Workout microsite, Spotify users take a short quiz about how they workout (alone, in groups etc), what type of exercise they favour, the duration of the sessions and the vibe of the workout and music they listen to.
By logging in to their Spotify account from the microsite, Spotify then merges this information with the powerful usage data it has about the user to create a bespoke playlist to meet their needs.
The playlist is fully editable, allowing users to remove any songs they don’t like, while also giving them the ability to click to refresh the list, to add alternative songs along the same theme.
UPDATE: Spotify has since launched a similar service which not only creates a soundtrack for workouts, but creates the workouts themselves. Based on the user’s music and workout preferences, Spotify generates a HIIT workout routine and and a soundtrack to listen to while doing it.
