Somatic’s AI-powered toilet-cleaning robots automate undesirable jobs

Created by New York-based tech company Somatic, these robots utilise AI to automate undesirable jobs by cleaning toilets in office buildings.

Although this robot is not designed to fully replace janitorial staff, it provides a cheap and functional method for bathroom cleaning in an office building. Here’s how it works: first, Somatic sends out a shoebox-sized sensor kit that someone must walk around the entirety of the office building to create a 3D map of the entire space. Then an operator at Somatic reviews the footage and virtually cleans the toilets using a VR headset – training the robot on how to do its job. Once the robot has been delivered to the building and been set up, it can carry out its routine sanitation tasks. If the robot comes across something unexpected, it simply emails a photo to the janitor and moves on to the next spot.

These robots ease the long hours and unhygienic environments of the average janitor. At just $1,000 USD a month, this robot will do the job of cleaning toilets for less money than it would be to pay a human to do the job. The robots are already commercially available.
