Science Card lets consumers fund scientific research by using their current account

Science Card aims to address underfunding in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) research within the UK, amid less access to EU funding grants post-Brexit.

Set to launch in September 2023, Science Card has formed partnerships with leading UK universities. It offers users the opportunity to not only directly support research projects of their choice but also streamline the process of transferring funds to these initiatives. Users are offered a range of flexible options – including making micro-grants, rounding up purchase amounts, or even becoming patrons of specific research endeavours.

This unique approach allows users to potentially benefit from any returns generated through the intellectual property (IP) resulting from the supported research. Moreover, customers can actively engage with the research they endorse, receiving regular updates directly from the researchers. Science Card operates as an online current account, accessible through a mobile app with a Mastercard debit card.

Co-founder Daniel Baeriswyl established Science Card in 2021 and has pledged to allocate 10% of the company’s profits to fund scientific research.
