Professional hair and beauty services company Sally Beauty has opened Studio by Sally, a salon and shop that offers start to finish education for at-home hair stylists.
Studio by Sally originally opened in Texas, and the company plans to open five more locations before the end of 2023 and 100 more in the US over the next three to four years.
Dubbed a ‘DIY Salon’, Studio by Sally combines the concepts of shopping and teaching salons and allows visitors to do both themselves. With licensed-stylist educators in store, guests can learn to choose, mix, and apply their own hair colour.
Studio by Sally has options for every experience level. Free classes include Hair Education 101, Roots in a Pinch, and Styling Tools to introduce the basics. When giving a more in-depth one-on-one colouring or styling or small group class, Sally’s educators walk through every step of the process alongside salon-goers. From pre-appointment consultation and product selection to hands-on learning and post-service visit, Sally Beauty provides a full educational experience for DIYers.
As 62% of Sally Beauty’s sales come from hair colour and hair care, it wants to ‘demystify the hair coloring process’ in order to ‘unlock a successful DIY journey for consumers’ says Brenda Rutenber, the group’s vice president of stores.
