In August of 2024, Walmart launched “Realm”, a unique shopping platform designed to engage consumers.
Walmart is looking to capture the attention of the Gen Z demographic, tapping into their desire for visually stimulating and immersive digital experiences. The platform offers an interactive shopping experience with a surreal design that blends social media elements and e-commerce. Realm features gamified interactions, dynamic visuals and personalised Walmart product recommendations to engage these younger, tech-savvy consumers.
The site was created by Emperia, a platform behind other virtual stores in both the fashion and retail space, including L’Occitane and Bloomingdale’s. Furthermore, Realm also features virtual storefronts inspired by trend insights captured from Pinterest Predicts, which focuses on aesthetics that are likely to go viral. Users can collect Walmart Sparks and play games on the site to earn rewards like discount codes.
Realm is accessible globally as an online platform, reflecting the retailer’s strategy to expand its digital footprint by offering a shopping experience in alignment with Gen Z preferences and digital habits. It is designed to differentiate itself against the traditional e-commerce space by cultivating brand loyalty and elevating Walmarts presence in online retail.
