Polymateria’s bio-based cup launches at Twickenham Rugby

In 2025, polymer science company Polymateria and eGreen International launched VeriGreen Plus, described as the world’s first bio-based cup designed to be recyclable while capable of returning to the natural environment if it falls outside recycling streams.

The cup is now being produced at scale, with Twickenham Rugby one of the first major adopters. Being used by a major venue demonstrates the product is viable for high-volume sporting events where cup littering generates significant environmental impact.

VeriGreen Plus attempts to solve the tension between recyclability and biodegradability that often forces material choices toward one pathway at expense of the other. The biotransformable design claims to maintain both options. With single-use plastics coming under increased scrutiny, dual-pathway products like the VeriGreen Plus show that innovative eco solutions are making the transition from sustainable but unaffordable prototypes to commercial viability.
