The Nescafé coffee shop in Tokyo’s Harajuku district has introduced a unique amenity for guests seeking a quick rest: standing sleeping pods developed by Giraffenap.
The pods offer visitors the chance to enjoy a brief power nap in a comfortable vertical sitting position, using a specially designed seat that provides support for their arms, knees and head.
Available until 17 September, the sleeping pods come in two distinct styles: Spacia, characterised by a futuristic design, and Forest, which offers a cosy, nature-inspired atmosphere with wooden elements. Once inside, users can further customise their nap experience, adjusting factors like lighting, pad and holder heights, ventilation and even access to power outlets.
At the end of their nap, staff members will gently rouse sleepers and bring them a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Located near Harajuku Station’s Takeshita exit, Nescafé Harajuku operates from 11am to 8pm daily. The pricing for a half-hour nap session starts at ¥825 (less than $6), offering patrons a budget-friendly opportunity to recharge and indulge in a unique nap-time experience.
