Lashes by Luum uses robotics to do lash extensions

Lashes by Luum is a lash extension service conducted by a robotic eyelash artist.

The lash extension process is perfect for robots because of its tedious nature, claims Luum CEO Philippe Sanchez. The required dexterity and steadiness takes a long time and is susceptible to mistakes when done by humans. Developed fully from scratch, the automation is a combination of robotics, AI, and computer tech. The Luum lash robot can take the usually two to three hour process down to just 20 minutes, thanks to its micro-level precision.

Sanchez says the machine doesn’t replace anyone, just makes their jobs easier. By leveraging precision and speedy service, lash stylists are able to have a faster turnover of clients in a day. The human touch is added through style consultation, prep and narration of the process during the session.

With the false eyelashes market set to grow 5% between 2023-27, and demand for cosmetic beauty treatments booming, innovations like Lashes by Luum that bring this category into the ‘lunchtime procedure’ slot (alongside the 10 minutes needed for a Botox injection, for example) mark an important step forward in the beauty industry.

Currently, Luum is operating the service via VIP preview appointments only. However there is a waitlist open for the future.
