Kibu headphones are designed to be assembled and repaired by children

Batch.Works, a circular manufacturing company, has joined forces with design studio Morrama to introduce the Kibu headphones, a product designed to be assembled, personalised and repaired by children.

Developed at Morrama’s studio in Hackney, east London, the headphones are constructed using recycled PLA derived from agricultural industry packaging waste. The formal launch of Kibu is anticipated later in 2023. To ensure it’s safe for kids to use, the design features enlarged parts to minimise the risk of ingestion for the target audience, children aged five to eleven.

Addressing the issue of e-waste is a primary motivation behind the creation of the headphones. The modular design enables effortless replacement of broken parts, while also accommodating adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit as the child grows. By promoting repairability and adaptability, the Kibu headphones offer a sustainable and personalised solution for children in an effort to combat the growing e-waste challenge.
