Chinese pharmacy brand Danchu has created beautifully designed pouches for its herbal remedies, which mimic juice packs.
The liquid medication is inspired by Chinese herbal TCM remedies and tastes very bitter. To counteract this, Danchu’s pouches include a candy to cleanse the palate after consuming.
Customers can buy a kit with one-week’s supply of the product, which is split into morning and evening remedies.
The overall design borrows from the language of several beverage categories. The pouches can be drunk like juice packs, while the weekly kit mimics a box of tea.
Danchu is an online Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pharmacy offering herbal remedies which are prepared, packaged and delivered weekly to female patients.
Traditionally herbs like these would be picked up from hospitals and patients would have to boil them at home for 2-3 hours to extract the juice. With this Danchu offering, customers can easily drink them at room temperature or warm them with boiling water, or in the microwave.
The sleek design is an attempt to modernise the image of TCM for millennials, who may be dubious of its medical credentials.
