Ikea has launched a new feature on its website that inspires people to upcycle everyday items, rather than throwing them away.

Positioned as a new collection on its UK ecommerce site, the initiative makes suggestions about how people can extend the lifespan of items such as empty bottles, cans, jars and bags.

Lagom is a Swedish philosophy that encourages grow your own initiatives, waste reduction and home efficiency.

To coincide with the launch Ikea hosted the Better Living Event in select stores across the UK. The three-day in-store experience was designed to educate and inspire as many people as possible to live a more sustainable life at home.

Ikea UK & Ireland’s CRM leader Iain Neal said: “Whilst most people recognise that climate change is happening, many don’t connect with it personally or emotionally and we wanted to address that head-on.

“Through initiatives we have run for years, such as our Live Lagom ambassador programme, we know that when engaged, people see how easy living more sustainably can be.”
