Disney is using the Google Home Mini device to enrich family story time by playing relevant and contextual music and sound effects.
Users who are reading one of Disney’s Little Golden Books just need to say “Hey Google, let’s read along with Disney,” for the device to activate its voice recognition. This senses where the user is in the story and provides sound effects and music at key moments. Even if they skip ahead or go back, the app will recognise where they are and respond accordingly. The way it reacts contextually to whatever the user is doing at that moment, but doesn’t replace the human experience, brings so much more meaning to the interaction.
The Disney Read Along feature currently supports 16 books, with new titles set to be added in the future. Available books include: Moana, Coco, Jack Jack Attack, The Three Little Pigs, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Mickey Mouse and his Spaceship, Toy Story 3, Peter Pan, and Mickey’s Christmas Carol.
While this execution is specific to reading, it’s easy to see the same principles applied to other sequential processes like unboxing, tasting sessions, cooking and DIY.
