FluentPet is helping to bridge the interspecies communication gap

FluentPet is an educational language learning system designed specifically for pets, particularly dogs. The system uses a series of durable, colour-coded word and picture tiles to teach dogs to understand and respond to spoken language.

The FluentPet system includes a set of tiles featuring common words and phrases, such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and ‘come’. Each tile has a unique colour and picture that corresponds to the word it represents. The tiles can be arranged in various patterns and configurations to create simple or complex commands for dogs to learn.

The FluentPet system also includes a mobile app that provides instructional videos and games to help pet owners teach their dogs how to use the tiles. The app also includes a feature that allows pet owners to track their pet’s progress and monitor their learning.

The idea is to provide a fun and interactive way for pet owners to communicate with their dogs and teach them new skills. The system is based on principles of positive reinforcement training, which emphasises rewarding desired behaviours and ignoring or redirecting unwanted ones.

Following the pandemic puppy boom, which led to five million more pets in the US, Morgan Stanley forecasts 8% annual growth in the pet industry by 2030, as people prioritise their fluffy friends – even in the face of rising living costs.
