Emirates creates travel accessories using upcycled plane interiors

Aircrafted by Emirates is a travel accessories capsule collection made using upcycled aircraft interiors.

In an effort to enhance sustainability efforts across its supply chain, from back-end operations to consumer facing products and services, Emirates will repurpose old aluminium headrests, leather and seatbelts collected during the retrofit of the carriers A380 and 777 aircrafts into a capsule collection of suitcases, backpacks, handbags, cardholders, toiletry bags and belts. The limited-edition range has been designed by tailors in the Emirate’s dedicated workshop newly established at the Emirates Engineering facility in Dubai.

Aircrafted by Emirates is set to go on sale towards the end of 2024 at official Emirates Stores, with all sale proceeds being donated to children in need via the Emirates Airline Foundation.

As each piece is handmade to order, customers may have the opportunity to request personalised laser engraving on select, limited-edition bags, suitcases, or document holders.

While the initiative is undoubtedly a smart way for the airline to upcycle disused plane parts into luxury goods, the impact on its carbon footprint will be minimal.
