In collaboration with Velcro, circular plastics company Elif has developed a recyclable mono-material PE pouch with a fully recyclable PE closure.
The pouch is made from a single material, polyethylene (PE), which is a widely-recycled plastic commonly used in packaging applications. Elif uses electron-beam printing to ensure full recyclability. The use of a fully recyclable PE closure eliminates the need for separate closures made from other materials that may be more difficult to recycle. The closure is also designed to be easy to use and convenient for consumers, with a simple, peel-and-reseal design.
In addition to being fully recyclable, the pouch is also lightweight and space-efficient, helping to reduce transportation costs and carbon emissions. The use of a mono-material design also makes the pouch more compatible with existing recycling systems, which can help to increase the rate of recycling and reduce waste.
The pouch demonstrates how innovative design and material choices can help to address the challenges of sustainability in the packaging industry. By using a single, widely-recycled material and eliminating the need for separate closures made from other materials, this packaging solution helps to reduce waste and increase recycling rates, while also providing a convenient and user-friendly experience for consumers.
