Electreon provides wireless EV charging roads

Israeli tech company Electreon specialises in wireless charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), offering innovative infrastructure that allows vehicles to charge while driving, parked or idling.

Its technology relies on magnetic resonance induction, where copper coils are embedded beneath the road surface, transferring energy to a receiver mounted on the EV. This setup eliminates the need for traditional charging stations, making EV charging more efficient and accessible.

The tech is currently undergoing trials at several locations. In November 2023, a combined mile of inductive charging road was installed in Detroit for testing, with two static charging inductive charging stations outside Michigan Central Station. More recently, in July 2024, a 100-metre long section of the charging road was installed in Trondheim, Norway. The initial year-long trial phase will be conducted with four specially designed electric buses – key objectives include ascertaining whether the system can be used exclusively to charge the vehicles and whether it can cope with the harsh Norwegian winter weather.

Electreon’s wireless electric roads are designed to support sustainable transportation by simplifying the charging process and reducing range anxiety – still a major pain point for EV vehicle owners.
