US pharmacy chain CVS has launched a new audio feature that allows the visually impaired to have their prescription read out to them via an accompanying app.
After a successful trial last year, the Spoken Rx labels are now being rolled out to every CVS store in the US.
Users can register with the help of staff in-store or over the phone and their prescription bottles will then be fitted with special RFID labels. Then, when they hold their phone within four inches of their bottle, the CVS app scans the RFID label and reads out key information, such as how many tablets the customer needs and how often.
CVS has also made Braille and large print labels available to customers on request.
