In Warsaw, Poland, Converse is leading a project to use street art to improve air quality.
Called City Forest, the project aims to replicate the impact of trees in urban areas where not many grow. Conceptualised by Polish artists Maciek Polak and Dawid Ryski, it was brought to life by the artist collective Good Looking Studio. Their impressive floral fresco now graces an apartment building near the bustling Politechnika metro station.
Using photocatalytic paint, known for its ability to break down air pollutants and convert them into harmless nitrates when exposed to sunlight, the creative team made a significant contribution to addressing one of the prominent issues faced by cities – the scarcity of green spaces that naturally purify the air.
The work not only brings increased aesthetic appeal to the area but also cleans the surrounding air, equating to the positive impact of approximately 780 trees. Converse’s plan is to expand the project to further locations worldwide, ultimately resulting in the equivalent of 3,000 trees.
