Chomp helps food and drinks businesses reduce unsold surplus

Chomp, a food-rescue app based in Hong Kong, connects users with businesses offering excess food and inventory at steep discounts, helping to reduce the 3,600 tons of food wasted in the city every single day.

The app uses geolocation to sort nearby businesses, allowing users to reserve and collect all kinds of food items from pastries to sushi, bread, cakes and even beer that might otherwise end up in a landfill. The service is currently pick-up only.

The system offers a win-win situation for businesses and consumers alike – consumers get access to great bargains, while businesses get help to minimise their unsold surplus. To highlight their mission, in August 2024 Chomp partnered with private club Soho House to host a buffet for 200 people made entirely from food that would have otherwise been discarded.
