Gin brand Bombay Sapphire has created an edible blue paint that can be used to colour glasses and add flavour to gin and tonics.

The paint has been developed in partnership with alcoholic confectionary specialists Smith & Sinclair and Rich Woods, head of cocktail development at London restaurant Duck & Waffle.

Five bars will use the paint in Bombay Sapphire gin and tonics, each of whom has their own flavour. At Duck & Waffle the paint on offer will be geranium flavoured. At Mr. Foggs and Scout, both in London, the flavours will be calamansi and bergamot respectively, while Edinburgh’s Panda and Sons will serve gin and tonics using grapefruit flavoured paint, and Tariff & Dale in Manchester will serve a tropical pineapple flavour.

Renaud de Bosredon, brand ambassador at Bombay Sapphire UK, said: “We’re super excited to launch the Bombay Sapphire paint collection and bring it to gin lovers across the country. We want people to have fun and be creative with the way they enjoy this iconic serve. Each essence has been carefully designed to complement our botanicals.”

The paints are a novel way of differentiating the brand from its on-trade competitors, and should make for both an eye-catching drink and an interesting and engaging drinking experience.
