YSL has used technology from its parent company L’Oréal to launch a personalisation-focused at-home lipstick printer.
Rouge Sur Mesure, which was soft launched in 2021 ahead of a wider scale commercial rollout this year, is based on L’Oréal’s Perso device, which it debuted at CES 2020.
Like its predecessor, Rouge Sur Mesure is powered by colour cosmetics cartridges and an app, which allows users to print 4,000 different shades of lipstick on-demand.
Users select the shade they want in the app and the Rouge Sur Mesure device produces a pea-sized portion, which they can apply using a brush.
Users can choose from existing YSL lipstick shades, our they can create their own. New to Rouge Sur Mesure, YSL has also added the Shade Stylist feature, which allows users to take a photo of any outfit to receive a recommendation about the best shade to complement it. This can then be printed at the touch of a button.
The other useful new feature of Rouge Sur Mesure is that the top of the device where the product is printed is now detachable, allowing it to double as a makeup palette, which users can carry with them in their handbag.
The device costs $299, while each of the four colour cartridges are $89, meaning the whole package starts at $655, roughly the equivalent of 25 YSL lipsticks.
