Aromatica’s Zero Station is a zero waste cultural space

Aromatica’s Zero Station is a sustainable beauty store built to encourage circular shopping behaviours.

The brand’s flagship store opened in Seoul, South Korea in 2021, blending retail with refill stations, aromatherapy, recycling and upcycling facilities, and even a tea room. The entire experience is designed to create moments of real interaction with the brand and other visitors.

Education plays a key role in the store. The recycling area teaches visitors how to properly separate, reuse and dispose of empty containers. Visitors can bring their own reusable containers or purchase post-consumer recycled plastic and glass bottles at the store. The store demonstrates the brand’s virtuous circle project ‘Infinite Plastic Cycle’. The ‘Infinite Plastic Cycle’ zone is a space for resource circulation campaign that allows everyday plastic waste to be used again and again.

The Plastic Mill at Garou-Gil branch is a collaboration between the brand Aromatica and the Seoul Federation for Environmental Movements to create upcycled goods that recycle plastic. They collect small bottle caps or plastic parts that are too small to be recycled in the conventional system and use an injection machine to transform them into soap dishes.

The store itself is a product of a circular initiative, with materials including glass, bricks, wood and furniture repurposed from the brand’s previous space used in the interior. The brand commissioned sustainable creatives to create upcycled furniture and fittings using the materials.
