Amazon Anywhere lets users make purchases from within games and virtual environments

Amazon has introduced a new shopping experience called ‘Amazon Anywhere’, which enables users to purchase real-world products within games and virtual worlds – with the feature already accessible in Niantic’s newly launched AR game Peridot.

Once users have linked their Amazon account in Peridot, they can buy items such as shirts, hoodies, phone accessories and a throw pillow directly within the app. Before completing the purchase, users are shown the final price and an estimated delivery date.

Typically, in-app purchases are limited to digital goods like in-game currency or upgrades. However, with Amazon Anywhere, users can now make purchases for physical products without leaving the app. Users can view product photos, check availability, see prices, and receive estimated delivery information, similar to the experience on Amazon’s website. To access this feature, users need to link their Amazon account within the Peridot app.

The feature is currently only accessible in Peridot, but Amazon plans to expand availability to other mobile apps, virtual worlds and video games. Amazon has also launched a dedicated developer page for companies interested in creating their own Anywhere experience.
