7-Eleven has started to offer autonomous delivery to customers via its 7NOW app in Mountain View, California.
Working with robotics company Nuro, the delivery service will first be fulfilled by autonomous Toyota Priuses, with the company’s R2 bots being introduced later.
Users can browse and purchase items through the 7NOW app, before selecting autonomous delivery. The option will be available to Mountain View customers at no extra charge daily between 8am and 9pm.
Jiajun Zhu, CEO and Co-Founder of Nuro, said: “Residents in the state of California – a major hub of innovation – have never been able to experience the commercial delivery of goods by an autonomous vehicle. Nuro is teaming up with 7-Eleven to change that. We’ve always wanted to bring Nuro’s autonomous delivery to our local community and to our neighbours. We couldn’t be more excited to do this with an iconic neighbourhood store like 7-Eleven in our hometown, Mountain View.”
