Beanroom is a café combining data-driven personalisation and coffee craftsmanship

In July 2024, Beanroom opened its doors in Taipei as a ‘conceptual coffee bean shop’, using data analytics to serve customers a highly personalized coffee experience.

Upon arrival, customers fill in a form detailing their taste preferences and other information, including mood and sleep patterns, with all data points gathered together to help craft a bespoke cup of coffee. The café also offers 60-minute coffee-tasting experiences that include visual and auditory elements.

Beyond offering personalized beverages, Beanroom uses the data it gathers to help optimize its supply chain. This helps it to keep waste to a minimum – especially critical given the café’s preference for sourcing high quality organic coffee beans. By analyzing trends and customer feedback, Beanroom can ensure every cup is fresh and customers leave happy every time. Baristas are trained not just in making coffee but also in data science principles.

Designed by Taiwanese interior design studio Waterfrom Design, the space emphasizes adaptability and sustainability, featuring recyclable materials and modular shelving systems. With only six bar stools, Beanroom’s craft is intended to be a low-traffic minimalist experience. A modular window display allows visitors to leave their own mark on the space by placing a coloured block into the rack, which gradually shifts in appearance as more customers come and go.
