San Francisco-based design studio Whipsaw has unveiled Aescape, an AI-powered robot designed to provide deep-tissue massages with remarkable precision.
The machine features a pair of metallic arms mounted on a vegan leather-bound massage table, equipped with padded “hands” made from silicon to mimic the contours and touch of a human hand, delivering a personalised massage experience.
In order to cater to diverse body types, Aescape uses suspended sensors that conduct 3D scans of the user’s body before the massage. Discreetly housed within light rings, the sensors help to mitigate the discomfort users might feel about being observed. The scanned images are then processed by the machine alongside user data entered via a touchscreen display located beneath the headrest.
Aescape’s AI system draws from an extensive database of massage techniques, constantly learning and refining its methods based on feedback from each session. Despite its capabilities, Aescape says the machine is not intended to replace human masseuses but rather to address the shortage of professionals in the massage industry.
