The Gulp washing machine filter combats the issue of plastic fibres shedding during laundry cycles and making their way into rivers, oceans and wildlife.
Compatible with all laundry detergents, the filter is engineered to intercept up to 90% of microfibres, efficiently capturing around 700,000 per washing cycle. It also boasts a sustainable edge by not relying on disposable filters.
What sets the Gulp apart is its closed-loop system, with collected microplastics able to be returned to the company for recycling. Designed for compatibility with most washing machine makes and models, Gulp’s integration involves connecting the machine’s drain hose to the device. A reusable filter cup traps particles from the water before it is released into the municipal sewage system.
Launched in a 2022 Kickstarter initiative by British engineer Adam Root, known for his work at Dyson. Root founded his own company, Matter, to bring this concept to life, leveraging his experience to create a device that pioneers a new approach to sustainable laundry practices.
