Futuroscope theme park will recycle visitor urine into fertiliser

Amusement park Futuroscope, near Poitiers in France, has announced plans to collect visitors’ urine and transform it into a valuable biostimulant, a natural fertiliser that promotes plant growth and provides additional nutrients.

Collaborating with Toopi Organics, a French start-up specialising in converting human urine into sustainable resources, Futuroscope aims to implement this unique initiative by 2025.

Toopi Organics’ expertise in urine treatment and modification aligns with Futuroscope’s focus on technological experimentation. Through the partnership, the park aims to help reduce the reliance on synthetic fertilisers currently used in crop cultivation. Alexandra Carpentier, the director of Toopi Organics, highlighted a shared objective of halving the use of these fertilisers in agricultural practices.

By implementing this original and innovative approach, Futuroscope seeks to contribute to a more sustainable future by harnessing the potential of urine as a valuable resource for agricultural growth.
