A book edited by Phaidon samples Palace’s unusual and poetic product descriptions. The descriptions – which have achieved a cult following in recent years – are full of humour, pathos, social commentary, and unabashed opinion. They do not include practical details, for example: “Trendsetter, Don’t Think So Mate, You Look Like You Moonwalked through Topshop, with your eyes closed, covered in glue.”
The London-based label is releasing a printed archive of online descriptions dating back to its 2013 debut. The book titled ‘Palace Product Descriptions: The Selected Archive’ – will be released on 26 October 2022. It contains over 3,000 descriptions, organised into 22 tongue-in-cheek categories, which include Anatomy, Animals, Etiquette, Philanthropy, Romance, and Travel.
The product descriptions are authored by Palace co-founder, Lev Tanju, himself. The book opens with an introduction by writer, poet and literary critic Sam Buchan-Watts, who argues that Tanju has “pioneered an artform in a place where few people thought to look.”
