Electricity TV forecast teaches energy sobriety in France

Faced with the energy crisis, France Televisions has decided to raise awareness among the French on how to avoid power cuts this winter. France TV is broadcasting an “electricity forecast” on top of its usual weather forecast. The new bulletin is created in partnership with Ecowatt and informs viewers on the consumption of electricity in the country for the upcoming 4 days.

The Ecowatt energy forecast is scheduled at peak audience time, every evening in a bid to educate people on energy sobriety, resilience, and to save electricity. A set of pictograms designed as part of the Ecowatt system allows viewers to see in real time the level of electricity available: green means normal, orange is tense, and red is very tense, synonymous with unavoidable blackouts if nothing is done to reduce consumption.

In concrete terms, viewers from individuals to corporations are invited to modify their practices according to the pictogram on the screen. If they see the red one, they should moderate their consumption during peak hours, from 8 am to 12 pm or between 6 and 8 pm.
