American e-commerce brand, TA3 Swim, known for its body-fitting sculpting swimsuits, has seen its return rate drop to 9% following a 6-month partnership with global leader in AI-first mobile body measuring and virtual try-on solutions, 3DLook.
The virtual try-on experience, called YourFit, allows shoppers to get instant size recommendations and product suggestions based on 86 body measurements. To benefit from the feature, customers upload two photos of themselves into a mobile-based scanning platform, in order to generate a highly realistic 3D avatar they can use as a fit benchmark.
Unlike other solutions that roughly overlay a photo of a garment over the shopper’s photo, the YourFit technology uses a cloth simulation machine learning algorithm to recreate the texture of fabric, which is applied on the shopper’s AR body. Complete within 60 seconds, customer photos and data are instantly deleted to preserve the privacy of customers.
TA3 Swim reported that 46% of customers using YourFit have been converting to purchase, with 80% choosing to purchase the YourFit recommended size. They also noticed a 2% rate with bracketing-related returns, as providing size recommendations for shoppers eliminates the need to purchase multiple sizes and return the ones that don’t fit.
In addition to eating into profit margins, fit issues contribute to 38% of all apparel returns damaging the planet with unnecessary emissions. 3DLook, launched in 2016, is encouraging better shopper behaviours and improving business performance thanks to AR technology – a market set to reach $198bn by 2025, up from just $3.5bn in 2017.
