Lolly is a dating app aimed at Gen Z that focuses on short-form video content, similar to that used on TikTok, as a means of connecting users.
On the app’s website, the brand states: “On Lolly, you can find people like you would in real life: through common interests, flirting, humour, talent, and devilish charm – not through 3 pics and 1 sentence”.
Instead of written profiles and photos, users upload a video of themselves in which they can show off their sense of humour and creativity. Other users see these videos in a vertical feed just like on TikTok.
These videos are searchable by the user’s interests and the app’s founders therefore believe that users are more likely to make strong connections with others based on those, than on other apps in which users make their initial decisions largely based on looks.
