The city of Vilnius in Lithuania has built a non-profit real-time video ‘portal’ that allows citizens to connect with residents of Lublin, Poland, 375 miles away. Both cities have a large circular screen with a camera on top, which broadcasts a live feed to the sister screen.
The portal is a joint project between the Benediktas Gylys Foundation, the City of Vilnius, the City of Lublin, and the Crossroads Centre for Intercultural Creative Initiatives.
In addition to easing the loneliness of lockdowns, the initiative is designed to be a bridge between two nations, a unifying symbol that rises above prejudices and disagreements of the past.
