Diesel has announced the launch of the Diesel Library, a project that will see a new collection released made using a range of ‘evergreen’ and longer-lasting denims.
According to Diesel, 50% of the overall collection will have what it calls a ‘permanent shelf-life’.
Items in the collection will be made using fibres, washes and treatments that have been identified as either more efficient or responsible, with a focus on organic and recycled fibres. Treatments will be used that use less water and chemicals, and various other touches will be introduced to make each item more sustainable, such as using metal buttons that haven’t gone through any galvanised treatments.
No items from the collection have yet been revealed, but Diesel has indicated that they will all have timeless designs made to ‘outlive trends’; and if the pieces really do last substantially longer than most other jeans, this certainly seems like a sensible direction from a design point of view.
