Chinese shopping mall CityOn in Xi’an has collaborated with audio sharing platform Himalaya to give customers free access to audiobooks while shopping.

Visitors scan a QR code within the CityOn app to access Himalaya’s free Audio Library book channels, created exclusively for CityOn.Xi’an customers. The varied selection includes titles from travel, fiction, literature, education, food and drink. Best-sellers are also free to listen to, for example Ma Dong’s Career Plan B or Kevin Tsoi’s 201st EQ Lesson.

Customers only have access to the recordings while they’re at the mall.

CityOn.Xi’an’s General Manager Xu Jing Dong said: “CityOn.Xi’an has always been at the forefront of new retail and has achieved numerous firsts in the nation.

“These O2O collaborations have brought CityOn.Xi’an and customers closer together, successfully converting online traffic to offline footfall and achieved record-breaking performance in customer traffic and sales.”

CityOn and Himalaya have also collaborated on audio cards, which app users can customise and send to their loved ones. Outside of the mall, users can opt-in to receive exclusive brand news and information about up-coming events at CityOn, but they have to return to the mall to listen to the audio books for free.

According to Xu Jing Dong, the shopping mall previously launched: “The world’s first offline experience store for DiDi, China’s first SF Express delivery customer service store, the first smart electric bike stop and motorcycle charging facility. It also hosted the first Ponycar flagship store in China’s north-west region.”
