Rock music band The Lights Out have teamed up with Aeronaut Brewing Co. in Somerville, Massachusetts to release their latest album on a beer can.
The album uses a code on the label, which is scannable within the Spotify app, sending users directly to the music.
Lead guitarist Adam Ritchie said: “When you listen to an album, a lot of the time you open up a beer, or when you open up a beer, a lot of time you’ll throw on some music. We’re taking this thing that’s been desensitised and digitized and coming up with a way to bring it back into our physical world that isn’t a throwback thing like making a vinyl record but is more with the times. We’re using technology to solve a problem technology created.”
The album was handed over to the brewery and the music is said to have inspire the beer development and can design. “We leave that up to them,” Ritchie said. “We make the records, they make the beer. We trust each other to do what they do best, and have them brew whatever it inspires.”
The resulting beer is a black IPA, which went on sale in December 2018, ahead of a series of live shows in January 2019.
